It all started with frequent visits to our local SPCA. On our weekly visits, we met many dogs with many different needs and personalities. One day on our regular visit, we met a friend who we knew we couldn't live without. Our oldest boy, Dexter, greeted us for the very first time by gently placing his head between our legs, tail wagging and so happy to be surrounded by every loving human around him. From that moment we knew that we couldn't leave without him. This is the day we found our lovable, stubborn and happy old boy with a zest for life.
About one year later, we were approached by someone at a local rescue when they took in a lovable Duck Tolling Retriever mix. This is when we adopted Dexter's complete opposite; young, energetic and eager to learn! Our house of fur was complete, but we still didn't feel like we were doing enough.
After hearing from a founder of a local rescue about the difficulties that many rescues have with vet bills, supplies, finding foster homes and drivers willing to pick up those in need of a forever home, we decided to take our love for running and put it to good use.
This brings us to now, where we have created a race for many purposes. The main focus of this race is to do what we can to raise funds for local rescues who need it. However, it is important for us to raise funds the right way. Including your dog in physical activity not only gives you something fun to do with your friend, but allows your dog to develop their muscles, maintain a proper weight and decrease boredom which is often the cause of many behavioural problems.
It's time to get outside, spread the word, take care of our furry friends and help rescues who work tirelessly to make a difference in our community!
